U.S. actor Sean Penn in Turkey for documentary on Khashoggi murder

By Aliyu DANLADI

U.S. actor and filmmaker Sean Penn and his crew on Wednesday did some shooting in front of the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul reportedly for a documentary on the killing of Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the mission.

The private NTV broadcaster said the actor had been trying to gather detailed information on the scene to make a documentary about the murder of Khashoggi, a case that has sparked an international outcry.

According to the broadcaster, Penn is expected to meet with Hatice Cengiz, the fiancee of Khashoggi, in the city.

The Sabah daily reported that the actor would also pay a visit to the capital city of Ankara in the upcoming days to meet Turkish officials.

According to the Istanbul prosecutor, Khashoggi was strangled to death after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2 to get documents for marrying his fiancee, and his body was then dismembered and destroyed.

Turkish police and crime scene investigators are still trying to locate the remaining parts of his body across Istanbul and the neighbouring Yalova province.
