The Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) said on Friday that it generated N57 million as revenue in 2018.
Its General Manager, Mr Mathias Hata, made the disclosure in Jos when he led management staff of the board to defend its 2019 budget before the House of Assembly Standing Committee on Parastatals.
According to Hata, the revenue was generated from fees for the processing of building plans.
He explained that N93 million was its expected revenue for the year, but said lack of adequate funding hampered it from hitting the target.
“We generated N57 million out of the N93 million we expected to generate in 2018.
“These monies were generated basically from the processing charges on building plans.
“We were unable to meet our target due to poor funding, but at least, we have been able to make some progress,’’ he said.
The General Manager decried lack of equipment that would enable the Board carry out development control within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, a situation he said gave way for the erection of illegal structures.
“As I speak to you, eighty to ninety per cent of structures within the Jos and Bukuru metropolis are illegal.
“And this is due to poor funding and lack of equipment for us to carry out our development control activities that will stem such developments,’’ he said.
On his part, Mr Jackson Danladi, Chairman of the committee, assured the management of the board of getting more funding for it, to enable it maximize its productivity. ——–NAN
