Stampede: Buhari sends SGF, Adamawa Governor, others to condole Taraba Govt

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a high powered delegation to condole with the Taraba Government and families of those who died in a stampede during the APC presidential campaign rally on Thursday in Jalingo.

Mr Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), who led the presidential delegation, said in Jalingo, on Sunday, that President Buhari was deeply touched by the unfortunate incident.

The SGF led delegation also visited four injured people at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo and also condoled with the Emir of Muri,  Alhaji Abbas Tafida and the Gov. Darius Ishaku.

Mustapha said the president described the death of the eight people during the rally, as “a supreme sacrifice for democracy”,  assuring the bereaved that their loved ones have not died in vain.

According to him, the president prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, saying God would grant the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

Responding on behalf of the families of the deceased, Alhaji Haruna Kawuwa, Head of Local Government Administration, who lost his wife, thanked the president for his show of love and solidarity at this point of their bereavement.

Kawuwa assured the president of their continued support and loyalty to his aspiration, and wished the delegation journey mercies back to their various destinations.

TBI Africa said the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the delegation included: the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello and Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa.

Others were: Dr Ali Pantami, Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency; Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, and Sen. Ali Ndume, among others.

Those who lost their lives at the presidential rally included: Alhaji Gudali Buba, Ardo Barkere, Alhaji Musa Namuddi and Sukaina Hassan.

Others were Amina Yahya, Zainab Yahya, Safiya Haruna Kawuwa and Ummul Al-Hassan.
