Badagry Legion urges LASG to provide patrol vehicles to enhance its members’ activities

By Aliyu DANLADI

The Nigeria Legion, Badagry Constituency, Lagos State, on Tuesday urged the state government to provide it with functional patrol vehicles to carry out its duty.

Tbi Africa said that the Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Badagry Division, Mr Gabriel Asanbe, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry, Lagos state.

Asanbe said that the provision of functional patrol vehicles to its members would make them to provide adequate security in and around the primary and secondary schools in the area more effective.

According to the chairman, the legion has been employed by the Lagos State Government to secure all public primary and secondary schools in Lagos state.

“Unfortunately, lack of vehicles has debarred the organisation from effective performance of its duty in those schools.

“We are not mobile; there are a lot of atrocities that the students commit in their schools on a daily basis.’’

He said that some schools (names withheld) within the area had been giving his men some challenges.

He said that some students from the schools were fond of coming to schools with charms, dangerous weapons such as knives, catapults, cutlass and swords.

“Recently, there was problem in one of the secondary schools in Ijanikin area; the school authorities had to call us that some students were fighting there.

“They invited us to come and arrest the boys, but unfortunately, we did not have patrol vehicles to take us there.

“I had to charter a commercial motorcycle to take two of my men to the school and after arresting those students, we could not bring them to our office on the motorcycle,’’ he said.

Asanbe said that the availability of functional vehicles is the immediate needs of the Legion to function efficiently.

He said that with it, his officers would be able to move round schools in Badagry and checkmate the nefarious activities that were likely to be committed by students.

“So, we are appealing to the LASG to assist the Legion in Badagry with vehicles so that we will be able to deliver our work effectively and efficiently.

“We are not asking for more because the recognition given to the retired soldiers who constitute the Legion by the government is quite appreciated,’’ he said.

TBI Africa said that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Legion comprises of ex-servicemen and persons who had distinguished themselves in the wars in which Nigeria participated in the past.
