Globacom commends NAN for effective coverage of general elections, seeks collaboration

Indigenous telecommunications giant, Globacom, has commended the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) for effective coverage of the general elections.

Globacom also sought for collaborations with NAN  to enhance businesses in Nigeria.

Mr Olabode Opeseitan, the Director of PR and External Communication of the company, spoke during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of NAN in Abuja on Thursday.

Opeseitan appreciated NAN for providing credible and effective services to Globacom and Nigerians in general.

“ I make  bold to say that even during the 2019 elections, nobody can outrightly accuse you of bias. You did your best in line with the creed of journalism.

“We really appreciate what you stand for, the values you stand for and how you were able to project the important things.

“We are happy to know that you were able to educate Nigerians and facilitate a friendly environment to make businesses grow.

“What motivated us to pay this visit is that we look at the way NAN has been pro-business; you have not been going all out to attack businesses unlike some media organisations.

“You are not confrontational; what we see you practise is developmental journalism, so you are ready to listen when we have issues; you are caring and supportive.

“And we come to say a big thank you to you and your entire team. We want you to know that we treasure you.

“We also request that we will continue to need your support because we know that the business environment in Nigeria is very volatile now.

“Government is doing its very best in the areas of opening up businesses and trying  to make things easy but it has been challenging.

“ I believe that with your support, you will amplify the challenges that businesses are facing for the government to know the area of support so that government and businesses will be on same level,’’ Opeseitan said.

In his response, the Managing Director of NAN, Mr Bayo Onanuga said that the agency was set up to promote everything positive from Nigeria.

Onanuga said in spite of challenges, NAN had achieved a lot of mileage.

“However, we are trying to cover the entire country; our system of reporting is balance based.

`We also have offices in all states of the federation; our coverage is unbeatable.

“We are doing a lot of videos now; we have created multimedia platforms with provision for visual service and info graphics image on our stories

“Journalism needs effective data service and we believe Globacom has the capacity to provide such; we shall partner with your telecom company to achieve more.

“We are also working on a monthly magazine that will contribute to the education, entertainment and effective information dissemination,’’ Onanuga said.

Other Globalcom on the delegation  included, Mr Obi Oni, Head of Marketing Communication, Abuja, and Mr Andrew Okeleke, Head of Public Relations, Lagos.

The Editor-in-Chief of NAN, Malam Idris Abdulrahaman, and other management staff of the agency were also in company of Onanuga.

Globacom is a Nigerian multinational telecommunications company founded on Aug. 29,  2003, by Mr Mike Adenuga.
