NCAT to begin PGD course in Lagos – Rector

The management of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria says it has concluded arrangements to begin a part-time Post Graduate Diploma course in Aviation Management.

The Rector, NCAT, Capt. Mohammed Abdulsalami announced this while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos

Abdulsalami said the course would commence on Sept. 27 at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) Complex, Oshodi in Lagos.

He said that responses from applicants had been encouraging so far.

The rector urged organisations especially airlines, government agencies and private companies to take advantage of the programme to broaden their knowledge of the industry.

According to him, registration for different courses is still ongoing and it is the first time the college is running the programme.

He assured the applicants that the institution had capable instructors to handle the PGD programme and other courses the college intends to run in Lagos.

He said: “Just as you are aware, aviation industry is highly technical and dynamic.

“Things change every day. You can not continue to use the knowledge you garnered about 10 years ago to run aviation industry of today.

“The PGD in Aviation Management we are running is new to our environment and it’s in order to elevate our industry and the personnel working there.

“We intentionally brought it to Lagos in a bid to be closer to the people.

“As you are aware, Lagos is the concentration of aviation activities. So, we brought it here for people to actively participate in it,” he said.

He emphasised that the part-time PGD programme would run for three semesters.

Abdulsalami said apart from the PGD programme, NCAT was also running Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in various fields at its Zaria campus.

He explained that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) had approved the college to run the programmes.

The rector said they were aimed at transforming the college in line with the vision of the current administration for the institution.

“For the Ordinary National Diploma (OND), NCAT is running courses on Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology.

“For Higher National Diploma (HND), admissions are available for Aviation Management, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology (Avionics option) and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology (Airframe/Power Plant Option),” he said.

NCAT was in 2018 recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as an institution of repute.

ICAO recognised NCAT as institution with the highest number of certified training instructors in the world for the third year running and a Regional Training Center of Excellence.

The certification was the outcome of exhaustive statistical inspection of NCAT training facilities, instructional staff, course content and programmes, by a team of Global Aviation Training (GAT) experts.

By this recognition also, the ICAO GAT further gave NCAT allocation and approval to conduct additional courses.
