The Akwa Ibom Government has acquired two new aircraft to boost the number available to Ibom Air to five, according to Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (rtd), chairman of the aviation outfit.
Ikanga told newsmen on Tuesday in Uyo that the state government would unveil the new aircraft this month.
He said that the state government had invested much in the aviation business, stressing that it was a reliable alternative source of internal revenue.
The chairman said that Ibom Air had made “about 3,000 flights” since it took off few months ago, adding that more flights would be undertaken with the arrival of the two additional aircraft.
“We have also increased our routes; when we first started, it was only Uyo to Lagos and Uyo to Abuja. We have added Abuja to Lagos and Lagos to Abuja.
“We have also done enough to make prompt departure and we have made about 97 per cent prompt departures,” Nkanga said.
He said that 10 aircraft would be available to the aviation firm before 2023, adding that Ibom Air had brought a substantial improvement in the economy of the oil-rich state.
“Before the end of this administration, we should be able to acquire 10 aircraft and expand the domestic, regional and international routes,” he said.
