A religious group, Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship, has asked people in the country to adhere to the lockdown directives for the safety of everyone.
The group also urged citizens to pray for God to intervene in the COVID-19 pandemic.
A statement on Thursday by the National President, Prof. Charles Adisa, and the General Secretary, Pastor Onyenachi Nwaegeruo, said members of the association met on April 20 to review efforts at combating the pandemic.
“We are convinced that this battle as tough as it is, is winnable and with God on the side of the nation we shall be victorious. Consequently, we encourage the citizens to continue to adhere to the laid down rules on conduct such as observance of the stay-at-home directives and personal hygiene. We also call on the nation to continue in prayers while the medical personnel are doing what they can. God the great healer and deliverer will hear our prayers and save our nation,” the statement said.
The group, however, said without food, it would be difficult for Nigerians to stay at home, urging states and the Federal Government not to use political structures in the distribution of palliatives.
The NCGF advised government to device a “home-made” strategy for the lockdown, adding that community segregation which would see to the closure of main markets while neighbourhood markets were opened, could be effective.
