Non-oil exporters get air freight boost

To encourage local exporters, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) is facilitating the export of Nigerian products through air.

There will be transhipment haulage services to 27 European Union (EU) countries by road.

NEPC, in partnership with Free on Board (FOB) Global Logistics Limited, has introduced special discounted air freight services from Lagos to London Heathrow Airport.

FOB Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jimmy Adebakin, said it was an opportunity for individuals and corporations to start earning dollar income by exporting food items and other made-in-Nigeria products, such as textiles, cosmetics and other goods to Europe, USA, China, India and Dubai.

“This is an opportunity that requires little capital to start. If you are not currently an exporter, we encourage you to contact Free On Board Global Logistics Limited and/or NEPC for support.

“This is also a great opportunity for all our youth population to start gainful self-employment. The days of looking for salaried employment is over.

“America is built on entrepreneurship. We call on our unemployed graduates to wake up and start export businesses.

“We encourage state governors and the Federal Capital Territory to join our new call to action to support the Federal Government by encouraging Nigerian non-oil export.

“We are ready to deliver this national assignment and all hands must be on the desk,” he said.

NEPC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Segun Awolowo, said: “In the midst of the pandemic, the combined efforts of NEPC, FOB Global Logistics and NACCIMA Export Group has created unusual export windows using air cargo to reach out to the world.

“The initial step taken was with British Airways to airlift non-oil products of Nigerian origin. This has opened another opportunity with Turkish Airlines which will continue to increase the volume of Nigerian non-oil export as the day goes by.

“It is estimated that the export of Nigeria products will continue to increase through air cargo, which will lead to prompt delivery of good and services.”

NEPC under Awolowo has been championing the course of zero-oil reliance and has partnered with many organisations who have keyed into the Federal Government’s diversification agenda.

NAHCO Plc Group Executive Prince Saheed Lasisi, on the company’s involvement, said it has been at the forefront of pursuits aimed at developing useful platforms for offshore marketing of Nigeria’s Agri-produce.

This, he said, has informed the company’s continued upgrade of its cargo processing and facilitation infrastructure at the Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt International Airports.

He said NAHCO would continue to partner with dynamic agents to articulate and promote government policies of the government towards the growth of the aviation sector.

The service will be a daily airfreight departure as from June 7.
