LASG seeks stakeholders’ support on road expansion to curb gridlock

The Lagos State Government on Thursday solicited the support of stakeholders toward expansion of Demurin, Agidi and Church Streets interconnecting roads in Kosofe Local Government Area.

Dr Idris Salako, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, during a stakeholders’ engagement in Alausa, said the meeting marked another stride to remove the perennial gridlock on the Ketu-Mile 12 axis.

Salako, represented by Mrs Folashade Lediju, the Director of Administration and Human Resources in the ministry, said the meeting was happening immediately after a discussion with the people of Eti-Osa.

He said that the expansion of Demurin, Agidi and Church Streets in Alapere area was part of government’s strategy to ease transportation on the axis in line with its THEMES agenda.

He said it was also part of the state government’s commitment to improved road infrastructure for social and economic transformation of the state.

Salako appealed for support, cooperation and understanding of stakeholders toward the success of the project.

“This definitely is another opportunity for stakeholders in Alapere and entire Kosofe Local Government Area (LGA) to cooperate with us for the successful execution of the road expansion.

“Upon completion, these roads will boost socio-economic development of the area in particular and the state in general.

“As in every project, the development will definitely make demands on our ability to accommodate growth by making needful compromise and removing impediments in the project Right of Way in public interest.

“This is our culture toward the achievement of a greater Lagos, through improved road infrastructure for social and economic transformation of the state,” Salako said.

He noted that the government was working diligently to ensure that the people were part of the success story and urged them to take ownership of public projects.

He added that upon completion, the interconnecting roads would boost transportation, socio-economic development of the state and enhance interconnectivity.

Ths Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Olujimi Hotonu, said that the three roads were strategically linked, connecting several other roads within the environs.

Adeyoye said the roads were alternative bypass routes for traffic on Mile 12 and Ikorodu road, saying that upon completion, would reduce travel time and create jobs.

”Demurin is about 1.95km, Agidi, 1.04km and Church St.. has a length of about 742 metres,” the special adviser said.

She urged the people to cooperate to ensure speedy completion of the roads to make life more comfortable.

“We want to solicit for your cooperation and support for the project to be a success. Some fences will have to go as part of the sacrifice.

“We will minimise the inconveniences,” she said.

Mr Tunde Briamoh, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Publicity, Strategy and Security in the State House of Assembly, appreciated the gesture, leading the audience to rise to sing a birthday song for Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Braimoh, representing Kosofe Constituency praised the governor for the development in Kosofe and called for speedy payment of compensation.

The traditional ruler of Ketu, Oba Isiaka Oyero, lauded the project and urged the government to provide timely information on its progress through his palace.
