Schools Resumption: Proprietress canvasses adequate COVID-19 sensitisation in schools

As schools resume for the 2020/2021 second term academic activities on Monday, Mrs Goria Okoh, the Proprietress of Gap Fillers Nursery and Primary School, Agboju, Lagos, urges schools to adequately sensitise children on  COVID-19.

Okoh, said in Lagos that  sensitisation was very necessary to ensure strict compliance to the COVID-19 precautionary measures  as directed by the government.

According to her, these rules should be passed across to the children daily before the commencement of teaching and studies.

She said that by so doing, children who by the nature of long time spent in school for classes, would be sensitive and alert to the COVID-19 preventive measures put in place to stay safe.

“We have resumed as directed by government, even with the unpleasant news of increasing cases of COVID-19.

“But, it is fundamental that schools authorities methodologically sensitise students on precautionary measures.

“In addition to checking of temperature at the entrance, wearing of facemasks and hand washing, there is need to split the number of students in classrooms to observe the six meters space.

“Heads of schools must ensure that teachers and handlers in their schools give emphasis on these measures as first lecture and daily `breakfast’ to the children before proper classes begin,’’ she said.

On the turnout of students on the first day of school for the term, she said it was low as some parents were skeptical about releasing their children due to the increasing cases and deaths associated with the  second wave of COVID-19.

She commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on proactive measures put in place to guard against further spread of COVID-19 in the state and called on stakeholders to partner government to curb COVID-19
