The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has announced the pilot of 20,000-meter installation in Alimosho Local Government Area in partnership with Ikeja Electric Plc including plans to expand to the rest of the state.
A memorandum of agreement was signed by the commissioner, Mr Olalere Odusote, and major stakeholders in the project at the ministry on Tuesday. Odusote said that the state government had identified a number of feeders that would connect 20,000 residents of low-income areas in the Alimosho LGA.
He said, “We envision that if we can successfully do this in those areas, we can increase the safety of those areas and encourage enterprise in those areas.
“It will also demonstrate that it can be done all over Lagos if we kick off a pilot in an area that most people will not have expected.”
The Chief Executive Officer of Ikeja Electric Plc, Folake Soetan, expressed the company’s readiness to partner with LASG on the project.
She stated in her address, “We have been planning and working towards improving power supply to the residents of Lagos.
“Today marks the beginning of that agreement. The pilot is going to begin immediately the agreement is signed.”
A document outlining the process of the project obtained by our correspondent revealed that the LASG would be procuring and providing meters and also financing the project.la.
LASG would also provide the personnel necessary for effective implementation while ensuring an enabling environment for execution.
Ikeja Electric would be responsible for the execution and ensure that funds received from LASG are applied towards network upgrades on the designated feeders and distribution transformers and the installation of customer meters.
A third participant, Comercio Electricity Exchange Limited, will be providing project management, administration and supervision services for the seamless execution of the project and ensuring that the entire scope for the project and ensuring that the entire scope for the project is fully implemented by the parties.(www.tbiafrica.com)
