TCN to install new Gas Insulated Substation in Gwarimpa, Abuja — Official

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it is set to commence the installation of a brand new Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, said that installation works on the project would commence Oct. 27, and would be completed by Nov. 9.

“The new 2×60 Mega Volt Ampree (MVA) Gas-insulated Substation (GIS) is part of TCN’s efforts to reinforce the high voltage transmission ring project around Abuja.

“This will increase bulk power available for Abuja Disco to take to its customers in Abuja metropolis and environs.

“During the 14 GIS installation period, bulk power delivery to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will not be affected.

“TCN has made adequate plans to ensure that the quantum of power supplied AEDC is maintained,” she said.

Mbah said the installation of TCN’s new GIS substation would not affect bulk supply to Abuja Disco for its customers.

According to her, the Gwarimpa GIS Substations project when completed and inaugurated into circuit, will increase the quantum of bulk power supply in Abuja and the environs.

She said that TCN would continue to execute new transmission projects even as it completes old ones.

Mbah said this was  in line with its electricity grid maintenance, expansion, and rehabilitation programme targeted at putting in place a more stable and efficient network.
