TotalEnergies and its partners on the Oil Mining Lease 130 have announced the inauguration of 11 projects across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria this year.
TotalEnergies said in a statement that the projects were initiated, executed and inaugurated to mitigate the gaps in qualitative and technical education, maternal and child health, access to clean water and women and youth empowerment.
The projects, according to the statement, include Information Communications Technology centres, borehole and water treatment plants, mammography centres, secondary school structures, solar-powered water projects, and solar hybrid power plants.
The partners include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation; Prime 130, formerly Petrobras; and Sapetro.
The statement said Esan Model Boys Grammar School, at Uromi, Edo State, and the Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro, Ogun State, got ICT centres, while the Federal Medical Centre, Yenogoa, Bayelsa, and the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, Bayelsa, got mammography centres.
It said fully-equipped state-of-the-art secondary school structures were inaugurated within the premises of the Community Secondary School, Ufuma, Anambra, and Government Girls Secondary School, Maiduguri, Borno, last month.
According to the statement, solar-powered water projects, made up of two borehole units and water treatment plants, were inaugurated at Ndibe community, Afikpo, Ebonyi; the Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina, and the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Kaduna.
It said a 60KW solar hybrid power plant had been delivered to the Faculty of Science, University of Maiduguri, adding that the design, supply and installation of solar power system at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu, had been completed.

Speaking during handing over ceremonies of the projects, the Managing Director, TotalEnergies Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mike Sangster, said the completion and inauguration of the project were in furtherance of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of its deepwater operations.
He said, “These projects were borne out of the need to mitigate the gaps in qualitative and technical education, maternal and child health, access to clean water, and women and youth empowerment. They are in congruence with the related United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
He added that the locations of the projects were carefully chosen for maximum impact, coming from needs assessment carried out before the deployment.
The Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, Bala Wunti, said the NNPC would continue to consistently champion the implementation of sustainable community development projects that would positively impact the lives of the citizens.
