DPR urges rig owners, others to embrace modern technology to boost operations

By Thompson ABISOLA

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has urged Rig Operators and Oil and Gas Producing Servicing Companies to key into  modern technology to maximise their operations.

the Warri Zonal Operations Controller, Mr Antai Asuquo, , gave the advice on Friday at the “2018 Annual Tripartite Conference of Regulators, Rig Owners and Oil and Gas Operators in Warri.

Asuquo, who coordinated the programme, told newsmen shortly after the event that the industry was a critical sector in the economy, urging them to carry out their operations in a sustainable manner.

He said that the regulatory agency was committed to ensuring investors in the industry to reap the benefit of their investment by way of providing them with useful advice at all time.

The controller advised the stakeholders to take advantage of the increase in price of crude oil at the international market and inject more resources into their businesses.

He said that the gesture would help to boost their operations and by implication attained the national goal as pertained to production.

“This platform is to interact and discuss common issues with emphasis on ways in which oil operations are done in a sustainable manner to benefit the investors and the nation.

“We exposed the participants to new technological ideas that can enhance their operations.

“It is our concerned that the business of oil and gas is done in a way and manner that is sustainable and the investors to reap from their investment.

“It is intention of the government to increase production base. We believed now that oil price is doing well, investors will key into it and maximise their operations,” he said.

Asuquo said that the 2.8 million barrel per day (bpd) crude oil production target of the Federal Government was achievable.

“It is realistic in the sense that all investors are expected to channel more resources into oil exploration and production activities with the increase in prices,” he said.

Asuquo had earlier admonished the operators against the use of uncertified contractors and operating without valid operational requirements, noting that defaulters would be sanctioned according to the law.

“DPR will continue to collaborate with you, assist you in securing operational licences, help to resolve community disputes and also offer support in terms of technological ideas to enhance your operations,” he said.

Commenting, Dr Kawekwune Nnamdi, the Senior Geophysicist, Subsurface Department with Sterling Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), said on the sidelines that the meeting was timely.

Nnamdi said: “It has exposed the participants to what is required of us to have harmonious working relationship with the DPR and we are collaborating to increase production.

“A target has been set by the government.

“I believed that with the collaboration they are bringing on board, we will try our best as operators to increase production so that our economy will continue to be on the part of growth.”

Representatives from Halliburton, Netcore Integrated Services and CyherCrescent Limited, made presentations about their operations at the event.

Other companies represented at the event were: British Oil and Gas Exploration Ltd., Nigerian Petroleum and Development Company, Shell Petroleum and Development Company, Chevron Nigeria Limited.
