Lagos agric ministry makes over N1b IGR in 2021

The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture has generated over N1 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) this year despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commissioner for Agriculture Ms Abisola Olusanya spoke at the 2021 Lagos Food Fest.

She explained that the Food Fest was put together to allow residents unwind and relax with their families.

Olusanya noted that the Food Fest was a follow-up on the success story of the five editions of the annual Lagos Seafood Festival, which was held between the 2012 and 2020.

She said the event, which was an offshoot of the annual Seafood Festival, allowed the state to celebrate its seafood varieties spiced up with other exciting side attractions.

Olusanya said: “We just want to give them the honour; we want to give them the accord for serving the state well.

“They have gone over and beyond this year 2021 to deliver food security to a reasonable extent.

“For the first time in the history of the ministry, we crossed the billion mark in IGR so we feel it’s imperative that we give them some form of appreciation.”

Some staff of the ministry were also celebrated for their outstanding performance in the ministry’s success story in the last one year. Gifts were given to both junior and senior members of staff, as well as the highest revenue generating agency for outstanding performances.

Highlight of the event was the appearance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was the special guest of honour.

He made seafood rice with celebrity chef and the winner of Big Brothet Nigeria, Whitemoney, to the delight of guests.

The Food Fest, with the theme: ‘A taste of Lagos’, was spiced with entertainingactivities including a fashion show, music presentation, among others.
