Aircraft in the fleet of global carriers has increased in the last three months to push the total worldwide size to 28, 674 of that number, 23,513 active/serviceable airplanes while 5,161 airplanes are grounded/off- the – skies.
Statistics from a global industry database shows a favourable trend over the last three months.
In comparison to the previous month, there is a three per cent increase in active aircraft and an 11 per cent decrease in grounded aircraft.
The data reveals that the operational aircraft fleet expanded by 11 per cent compared to June,last year and 91 per cent compared to June of the previous year.
North America and Europe are the continents with the most active aircraft, having 87 per cent and 86 per cent of their fleets active.
Oceania comes in third with 85 per cent, followed by South America at 79 per cent and Asia with 76.
The lowest percentage of active aircraft in June 2022 was Africa with 68 per cent .
According to the ch-aviation database, narrowbody jets are the most used now, with 74 per cent of tracked aircraft active.
Widebody and regional jets are equally in demand, with 65 per cent and 62 per cent.
Turboprops are the least, with 40 per cent of aircraft still parked.
The Netherlands is the country with the highest percentage of active aircraft, more than 100 aircraft in its portfolio. 218 of their 221 aircraft are active. Ireland, Austria, Poland, Chile, Hungary, Turkey, the UK, Japan and Ethiopia are next, accounting for more than 91 per cent of the active fleet.
Nigeria and Hong Kong are at the top of the countries with the most aircraft grounded.
Nigeria has 79 of 123 aircraft grounded, while Hong Kong has 151 of 244 aircraft grounded.
Iran, Malaysia, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Thailand, Kenya, Philippines and Argentina follow.
Ryanair and Malta Air are the top 25 airlines worldwide with the most active aircraft , with 100 or more aircraft in their fleet with 100 percent and 99 percent of their fleets active.
Easyjet Europe and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines follow, with only one aircraft grounded.
The list continues with Spirit Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Easyjet UK, Turkish Airlines, PSA Airlines, American Airlines, Vueling Airlines, Republic Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and Wizz Air, all counting 95 percent or more active aircraft in their respective fleets . At least 92 percent of the top 25 carriers’ aircraft are active.
International Airfinance leads the top 25 Lessors list, with 95 percent of their fleet active.
ALM – Aircraft Leasing & Management, Tokyo Century, TrueNoord and Jackson Square Aviation round out the top five.
