Police dismiss report of kidnapping, murder in Abuja

Police in the Federal Capital Territory have described as baseless and unfounded, reports of the kidnap and murder of people in Galadimawa area of the territory.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement yesterday said the purported kidnapping of 19 people and killing of 12 in Galadimawa as circulated in recently were false.
She said after a thorough investigation by the FCT police command, it was clearly established that the claims were false and misleading, showing an intention either deliberately or not, to misguide and instill fears in the public.
The statement said: “The FCT police command remains steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of the public, and urge those spreading misleading information to team up with the command to reduce crime and criminality to the barest minimum,
“The CP urges members of the public to promptly report distress calls and complaints through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883 and the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB).”
She further said the commissioner of police FCT, CP Haruna Garba, assured the residents of Galadimawa and the entire FCT that the command had deployed tactical and robust intelligence apparatus to ensure security of lives and property.
The statement urged Galadinmawa residents to remain vigilant, and warned those spreading fake and baseless reports to desist from doing so.
The commissioner stressed that this misinformation only served to distort the prevailing peace and tranquility enjoyed by the residents of the FCT
