SUNU Group on Monday commemorated the second year of the death of its founder, Mr Pathé Dione, with religious ceremonies in all the 17 countries where the group has presence.
In his sermon at the Divine Physician and St. Luke’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Fr John Okoria said that Dione was a man who received a call that could be likened to Afrocentricism.
Okoria said that Dione chose to bring development to the African soil when everyone was talking about “japa”.
He urged everyone in SUNU group to continue in the vision of the founder and bring development to Africa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremonies served as a reminder of Dione’s enduring legacy and his unwavering commitment to the development of Africa.
NAN reports that a Quranic reading was also held at the NTA mosque, Victoria Island as part of the commemoration activities.
The services provided an opportunity for the SUNU group family, partners and the general public to come together to remember the life and times of the founder.
Reflecting on the impacts and legacy of the late founder, Managing Director of SUNU Assurances Nigeria PLC, Mr Samuel Ogbodu, said that Dione’s legacy was deeply ingrained in the company.
“We are committed to honouring his memory by continuing to build on the strong foundation he laid and by striving to achieve the ambitious goals he envisioned for the group” he said.
In his own tribute, Managing Director of SUNU Health Nigeria Limited, Dr Patrick Korie, eulogised Dione, saying he was not just a founder but a mentor and inspiration to all in the organisation.
“His unwavering belief in the power of African entrepreneurship and his commitment to social responsibility continue to guide our actions and inspire us to strive for excellence in all that we do,” Korie said.
NAN reports that Dione was reputed to have dedicated his life to empowering Africans through sustainable economic growth and development.
It was his deep belief in the potential of the African continent that led to the founding of the SUNU group, with the aim of creating a pan-African financial and health services hub that would contribute significantly to the continent’s progress.
Throughout his life, Dione championed the realisation of inclusive growth and social responsibility.
He was of the belief that businesses should have crucial roles to play in addressing the socio-economic challenges facing African communities.
It is this philosophy that is said to have continued to underpin the SUNU group’s operations, as it strives to create a sustainable value for all stakeholders
