As part of efforts geared towards re-enactment of the country’s security architecture, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Police Affairs, has handed over seven (7Nos) Modified Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAV) to the Nigeria Police Force to bolster national security and safeguard lives and property across the nation.
The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, officially handed over the (7 Nos) Modified Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAV) to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the headquarters of the Ministry, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
Gaidam noted that the vehicles symbolize a collective effort to empower the Nigeria Police in their vital role of safeguarding lives and property across the nation.
He said, “Today’s event marks a significant milestone. The security vehicles we are handing over to the Nigeria Police Force stand as a testament to the relentless commitment of our Ministry to bolster national security”.
According to him, “The Ministry has worked diligently, leveraging our annual budget, to address critical needs within the Nigeria Police Force. It is with pride that I present to you seven (7) state-of-the-art Modified Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAV), procured from our 2024 operational budget. We believe these vehicles will significantly enhance operational efficiency, ensuring our officers can perform their duties more safely and effectively.
“One noteworthy aspect of these vehicles is their design, which incorporates local content. This means they are tailored for ease of maintenance within Nigeria, unlike many imported security vehicles that often struggle with durability due to our unique weather conditions and terrain. This local content design ensures resilience, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness”.
The Minister assured the NPF that their well-being and security remains a top priority of the President Tinubu’s led administration.
“We are committed to providing the necessary resources to support their tireless efforts in protecting Nigeria’s citizens and their property”. He averred.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonaya Nlia expressed that the procurement and delivery of these LTAVs is a critical part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to provide the Force with modern tools and resources necessary to confront the evolving nature of crime and insecurity in our society.
He noted that the milestone was a testament to the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the capacity and operational readiness of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that they are lifelines that will aid in safeguarding the lives of our gallant officers as well as the citizens they are sworn to protect.
Receiving the vehicles, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, expressed profound gratitude of the force to the Minister for the generous donation of critical assets to the NPF, saying that it is not the first time they were receiving such a donation.
In his words, “We are receiving this critical asset at a time most needed and will surely play a significant role in enhancing our equipment capability and boosting our anti-crime efforts, and will be deployed where they will be needed.
