The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday morning, departed London, the United Kingdom, for Daura, Katsina State, ahead of a state burial.
The body of the late president was conveyed on a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.
The burial, which would have taken place yesterday, Monday July 14, was shifted to day by the Katsina State Governor. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State had officially shifted the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari earlier slated for Monady July 14, 2025 to Tuesday July 15, 2025.
At a press briefing in Daura shortly after his return from United Kingdom yesterday, Radda told reporters that the funeral prayer for Buhari would hold today at 2.00 pm in Daura. He explained that the shifting of the burial date became necessary to enable the arrival of dignitaries, family members and other well-wishers from within and outside the country who wish to pay their final respects, pointing out that arrangements had been completed to ensure a smooth and dignified burial ceremony for the former president, whom he described as a “trues patriot and statesman who served Nigeria with honour and integrity.”
Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a high-level Federal Government delegation to finalise documentation and logistical arrangements for the repatriation of the ex-president’s remains.
