Budget Performance: Senate committee lauds National Boundary Commission

By Giwa SHILE

The Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration has commended the National Boundary Commission for its good performance in the implementation of its 2018 budget.

Resident Information Officer, National Boundary Commission, Mr Kabir Isa, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Isa said that the commendation was made by members of the committee during their oversight visit to the commission.

He said that the Chairman of the committee, Sen. Abdullahi Gumel, while leading other senators during the oversight function, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of both recurrent and capital budgets of the commission.

“I am happy with what I saw and this would encourage us to make sure that more funds are approved for you and looking at what is on ground, I mean your offices are now looking more cooperate than ever.

“I am optimistic that the commission deserves more funds. Accordingly, we will reflect such in our report to the senate,’’he said.

Gumel enjoined staff of the commission to persevere in the discharge of their duties, noting that one important function of the commission was settling conflicts arising from boundary disputes.

According to him, the job is hazardous and the senate is not unmindful of that.

Earlier in a presentation to the committee, the Director-General of the commission, Dr Mohammed Ahmad, said that the commission had applied the 10 per cent of the appropriated funds released to it on its critical mandates.

Ahmad expressed hope that the lawmakers would do the needful to enable the commission to discharge its responsibilities judiciously
