Dr Abiodun Ogunjobi, President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), says the association remains dedicated to finding solutions for the challenges in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Ogunjobi gave the assurance during a news conference on the upcoming NAPE conference, on Thursday in Lagos.

He noted that over 2,000 experts and stakeholders were expected to attend the conference, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s ranking of 84th in the Energy Trilemma Index, indicating below-average performance in energy security and affordability.

“The 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition will bring together about 2,000 delegates, including experts, policymakers, and global oil and gas investors, to discuss the Energy Trilemma Index and potential solutions,” Ogunjobi stated.

He said that the conference, with the theme, “Resolving the Nigerian Energy Trilemma: Energy Security, Sustainable Growth, and Affordability”, would take place in Lagos between Nov. 10 and Nov. 14.

Regarding the workshop, Ogunjobi emphasised that NAPE aimed to enhance the quality of oil and gas reporting by fostering in-depth discussions to bridge gaps in interviews, messaging, and overall coverage of the industry by media professionals.

“The oil and gas sector is highly technical. Accurate and detailed reporting is crucial,” he added.

Collaborating Ogunjobi, the president-elect of the association, Mr Jonhbosco Uche, reiterated NAPE’s commitment to addressing the energy sector challenges.

He highlighted Nigeria’s 84th ranking in the Energy Trilemma Index as a critical concern regarding energy security and affordability.

“As the largest association of exploration and production professionals in Nigeria, NAPE, with over 10,000 members, prioritises the resolution of the Nigerian Energy Trilemma in our conference agenda,” Uche stated.

The association’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Austin Mgbemere, noted that NAPE would continue to collaborate with the media and other stakeholders to promote learning, best practices, new solutions, industry advocacy, and economic development.

The news conference was followed by a workshop for media professionals covering the energy and oil and gas sectors.

The workshop focused on “Trends in Energy Transition and AI-Assisted Oil and Gas Reporting”.
