The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged the Iru Ekun Security Network to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and notify the police before carrying out security-related activities.

Sanusi gave the directive on Saturday during a meeting with the FCT coordinator of the security outfit, Segun Olufadeju, popularly known as Aluwaye, and his team at his office in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by Sunday Igboho’s media office, the police commissioner said cooperation with the police, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services and other security agencies was essential to effective community policing and crime prevention.

He commended the outfit for its activities but stressed the need to notify relevant security agencies, particularly divisional police authorities in their areas of operation, about crime prevention and detection efforts before taking action.

The meeting was described as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the police and the security network in tackling crime and promoting peace.

The founder of Iru Ekun Security Network, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for supporting the outfit.

In the statement, Igboho said cooperation with security agencies had contributed to the outfit’s reported achievements in tackling abductions, banditry and farmers-herders clashes.

“We are always ready to partner with relevant stakeholders in the security sector in further driving peace, protecting communities against hoodlums and other criminals posing a threat to our people, most especially law-abiding Nigerians in the South West,” he said.

Igboho also named the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, among security officials he said had supported the outfit.

Earlier, Olufadeju pledged that the group would inform and engage the police in the FCT regarding its activities.
