Chinese women pledge more engagement with Nigerian women

By Olaleke ASHAFA

The President of the Chinese Women Association in Nigeria, Mrs Zhou Jun, on Monday announced the association’s readiness to engage with more Nigerian women in promoting bilateral relations between Nigeria and China.

Zhou said that the association was working to increase friendly and economic exchanges between Chinese women and their Nigerian counterparts.

“Our association is just a year plus, and would be engaging with more Nigerian women in the near future.

“Let me say that so many Nigerian women are currently working in different Chinese companies. Half of between 50 to 100 Nigerians currently working in small Chinese factories are women.

“We have indeed created considerable employment opportunities in Nigeria. So, there is the possibility for us to engage with more Nigerian women in Nigeria and between Nigeria and China in the years ahead.

“We will continue to encourage and promote business exchanges between Nigerian women and Chinese women,’’ she said.

Zhou also expressed the association’s plan to engage with more Nigerians under the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, adding that it had started receiving Chinese delegations to Nigeria.

According to her, the association has been facilitating trade, investment, manufacturing, networking, education, infrastructure and development cooperation with Nigeria.

Zhou said that the association had within one year of its existence invested more than ten million dollars in Nigeria.

She said that the association was organised by the Overseas Chinese women in Nigeria, with the supervision of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos.
