The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the March 9 election, Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, has urged governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to ensure improvement in the quality of life of residents.
Reacting to Sanwo- Olu’s victory, Pearse told the News Agency of Nigeria TBI Africa said (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the governor-elect must show deeper commitment to developing education, so as to fight the prevailing challenges of poverty, hunger and insecurity.
“He (Sanwo-Olu) should do all he can to improve the quality of life for the people of Lagos State. Before we can congratulate him, we should see his performance.
“Now, he is the governor-elect, he should do all he can to improve education, transportation, health sector and govern with the fear of God, allowing people to express their will.
“He should not intimidate people and blackmail them into submission,” Pearse said.
The university teacher, who described the voter turnout as low, alleged that many voters were discouraged by the Presidential and National Assembly elections and were afraid to come out and vote during the governorship poll.
NAN reports that Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 739,445 votes to defeat Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 206,141 votes, and other contestants in the governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sanwo-Olu winner of the poll on Sunday.
