Kano councillor arrested for alleged diversion of palliatives

The Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission has arrested the Kabuga Ward Councillor of the Gwale Local Government Area, Shehu Kabuga.

The councillor was arrested for allegedly diverting 116 COVID-19 palliative forms meant for the vulnerable in the area.

The commission’s Director, Special Duties, Mallam Usman Bello, who confirmed the arrest of the councillor, added that Kabuga had been released on administrative bail.

Bello added that that Kabuga would soon be arraigned.

In another development, the Kano State Government has constituted a committee to interface with the coalition of labour unions in the state over a 14-day ultimatum given to the state government to refund, ‘’illegal deductions from their May 2020 salaries.

The state Chairman of the Kano chapter of the NLC, Kabiru Minjibir, who disclosed the establishment of the committee, also confirmed that the meeting would begin this week.

he union is also demanding the immediate payment of April to November 2019 salary arrears to all categories of civil servants in the state according to the agreement the government reached with the Joint Negotiating Council in December, 2019.
