FG To Embark On Effective Harnessing Of Coal For Electricity Generation

Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr.Uchechkwu Ogah on Friday explained that the federal government’s blueprint on coal will ensure that enough energy is generated through the mineral resources.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Umuahia, Ogah disclosed that the Enugu Coal Corporation has been targeted for rapid development by the federal government, stressing that the package include making coal, one of the mineral resources of the country, a major source of energy supply in the country.

The minister who was a keynote speaker at the 3rd Session of the 9th Synod of the Umuahia Diocese of the Anglican Communion held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Isiama Afaraukwu, Umuahia North, emphasized that the days of coal being dormant are over.

“This is a coal to power initiative and I know that we’ll ensure that Nigeria will be generating enormous power through its exploitation. We’ve left this mineral dormant for a long time and the time has come for us to put it in good use”, he opined.

At the church service, the minister, who spoke on the theme, “Faithfulness to God in Politics and Nation Building” tasked Christians not to isolate themselves from mainstream politics.

“Given the indispensable place of politics in the national reengineering enterprise, it is a mistake for Christians to completely isolate themselves from the realm of politics.

“When the people of God do not take it upon themselves to vote or stand for elective offices, they carelessly leave the fate of future generations in the hands of wicked and immoral politicians.

“These are men who are wicked and devious and have not the fear of the living God amongst them. By abstaining from the public square, Christians are compromising on one of the most fundamental teachings of the Christian faith, thou shall love your neighbour as yourself”, he declared
