Nigeria@61: Nollywood actress urges Nigerians to be good ambassadors

As Nigeria marks its 61st Independence Anniversary, veteran Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, has urged Nigerians all over the world to be good ambassadors of the country.

The actress, who made the call on her Instagram page @genevievennaji, while celebrating Independence Day, said that they should be the reason why people speak good about Nigeria wherever they are.

She noted that “Nigeria is not people but people are Nigeria.”

According to her, it takes heart to be a Nigerian, therefore, citizens should always ensure they do good and represent the country in a good way wherever they find themselves.

“Nigeria is not you, you are Nigeria.

“It takes heart to be Nigerian. Nigeria is not you, you are Nigeria. Be the reason they speak good about us wherever you are.

“Happy Independence you Nigerians,” she wrote.

Nnaji is a Nigerian actress, producer, and director, who won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actor to win the award.

In 2011, she was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contributions to Nollywood and the entertainment industry.

Her directorial debut movie, ‘Lionheart’, was the first Netflix Originated from Nigeria and the first Nigerian submission for the Oscars.

The movie was disqualified for having most of its dialogue in English.

After having spent decades in the movie industry, she was profiled alongside some celebrities and business executives in 2020 in two new books by publisher and Editor in Chief l, ‘Yes International!’ magazine, Azuh Arinze.
