The Niger Delta Budget Monitoring Group has called on state governors to begin the process of domesticating the Freedom of Information Act in their various states.
The group, also known as NDEBUMOG, explained that such measure would process easy access to information on projects implementation, monitoring, tracking, evaluation, and beneficiary assessments.
It stated this in a communiqué by its Chief Executive Officer, George-Hill Anthony, Oxfam representatives in Nigeria, Henry Ushie, and the Rivers State Lead, Follow the Money, Evelyn Williams.
Following the observations at an advocacy meeting, the group recommended that government at all levels cease attacks on the civic space and also remove the ban on Twitter.
The communiqué read in part, “Government should simplify the budget and make it accessible to all citizens.
“State governments should domesticate the Freedom of Information Act to allow easy access to information on projects implementation, monitoring, tracking, evaluation, and beneficiary assessments.
“Young people should overcome intimidation, psychological and social fears that are associated with fiscal governance. Notwithstanding, young people should be sensitive to the security climate within their environment and communally manoeuvre such gyratory through team spirit and communal solidarity.”
