Lagos-Badagry Expressway: Sen. Adeola hails Buhari over contract

By Meletus EZE

Sen. Solomon Adeola (APC, Lagos) has commended President Mohammed Buhari for approving award of contract for construction and rehabilitation of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Adeola, Senate Committee Chairman on Local Content, gave the commendation in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Kayode Odunaro, on Thursday.

He was reacting to the outcome of Wednesday Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which approved the award of a N63.02 billion contract for upgrade of the road leading up to Seme border.

He said that the Federal Government’s effort at ameliorating the suffering of his constituents and other Nigerians was laudable.

The lawmaker said that the collapse of the  road over the years had caused untold hardship on commuters and had crippled businesses along the international land gateway to Nigeria.

“Millions of my constituents, other Nigerians and foreigners plying this critical international highway in Lagos spend grueling hours in gridlock occasioned by the deplorable state of vast sections of the roads.

“Last year, I took my town hall meeting and empowerment programme to Badagry and we spent four and half hours to get to Badagry from Ikeja, a journey of less than one and half hours.

“I had to spend a night and a day to conclude what should ordinarily be a programme of less than three hours,” he lamented.

Adeola pointed out that the approval of the 46-kilometre road contract as announced by Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, included a 24-kilometre six lanes and 22-kilometre of the old 4 lanes.

He it would impact positively on the welfare of the people.

He promised to keep track of the progress on the contract to ensure complete execution.

Adeola said that in a bid to ameliorate the suffering of the people in that axis which is his senatorial district, he facilitated the rehabilitation of Baale-Olodi-Apapa Road (Boundary-Berger-Suya-Kirikiri Bridge) in 2017 FERMA Budget.

He added that he facilitated the inclusion of rehabilitation of Gbagi-Owode Road in Badagry in 2018 FERMA Budget.
