Community calls for provision of staff, equipment for health centre

By Giwa SHILE

Residents of Dawaki area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged the territory administration to support its Primary Health Care Centre with more staff and equipment.

The residents said this would increase productivity and meet the various demands of residents.

Mr Chinedu Marcel, a marketer in Dawaki, said there is the need to improve on the services at the health centre due to the increasing population in the area.

He said that with improved service, more residents would patronise the centre.

Also, Mrs Ijeoma Ukachukwu, a petty trader said that she had visited the centre many times for services.

She called on the administration to employ more workers to enable residents enjoy more services which the few staff could not provide.

Mr Ayo Awilo, another resident, said that he visited the centre once but was not able to get what he needed.

He disclosed that he had gone for Electrocardiogram (ECG) but there was no provision for the machine when he visited.

Similarly, Mrs Salamatu Shuaibu, the Matron of the Centre, stressed the need for the provision of additional staff to the centre.

She said the provision of more medical staff would increase productivity and service delivery at the centre.

Shuaibu added that this would also give people more confidence in the services provided and patronize the centre.

She stated that the health centre was established to allow people at the grassroots have access to medical treatment.

“We are thankful to the government for what they have done, which has reduced the burden of Dawaki people but there is still more to do, in order to perfect this.

“We love our job and would like to do more but in doing this, we need more hands to make the pace of our work faster and to help us reach out to more people as the need may arise,” she said.

She, however, stressed that the shortage of workforce has affected the patronage of residents.
