P/Harcourt DisCo donates relief items to school for special children

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has donated relief materials including food items to children with special needs in Rivers.

PHED’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Naveen Kapoor, presented the items to pupils of Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul’s Child Special School in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Kapoor said that PHED was passionate to contribute to education advancement as well as assist the less privileged in its coverage states of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers.

He said: “As a mark of our support for children’s education, PHED deemed it fit to visit this special school and assist the children with welfare items.

“This gesture may not seem much, but we are assuring you of our desire to support education across the four states of our operations.

He listed the items donated to the children as bags of rice, noodles, jerrycans of palm oil, vegetable oil, bunches of plantain, tubers of yams and toiletries, among others.

“The company, as part of its Social Corporate Responsibility, will continue to support education; not just in Rivers state but in Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

“I must commend management of the school for showing compassion, love and bringing hope to the children. We also commend the teachers for their relentless efforts,” he said.

Receiving the items, Administrator of the school, Sylva Anyanwu, a reverend mother, thanked PHED for the kind gesture.

Anyanwu said the school was established in 1980 by the Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese to cater for children with intellectual disabilities.

“The school, which is mainly made up with children suffering from autism, has a physiotherapy and speech units, among others.

“We are calling on well meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations and government at all levels to come and support these children,” she appealed.——-NAN
