Mr Ademola Agoro, the Managing Director, Protogy Global Services Ltd, has appealed to government at all levels to give more opportunities to qualified Nigerian  engineers and indigenous electricity companies to develop projects in the country.

TBI Africa said Agoro, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) in  Sokoto on Wednesday, said Nigerian engineers and indigenous companies had the capacity to solve the nation’s power  challenges.

Agoro, who developed grid connected 60 KiloWatt (KW) solar mini-grid  plant to supply power to 350 households  in Torankawa village in Sokoto State, said governments should realise that only Nigerians would be able to solve their challenges.

“There is nobody on earth that understands the terrain, what works in Europe is different from what works in China, it is different from what works in Nigeria.

“So, when you are designing a project for Nigerians, it should be in the best interest to use Nigerian engineers.

“And the truth is that Nigerians are capable, they only need support and people who have the expertise.

“It is just the issue of governments giving Nigerians more opportunities and we can solve most of the problems in this country.

“The quality of work done in Torankwa solar project can stand effectively with any project done anywhere in the world, it is a 100 per cent Nigerian content.’’

He said the 60 KW mini-grid solar plant in Torankawa community would improve the economic status of the community, adding that the company was ready to help anybody interested in developing electricity for commercial purpose.

“And anybody that wants to go into commercial side, we can actually deliver the power required, for those that do tomato drying, we can guarantee them 24 hours supply.”

He thanked the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing for giving the company the opportunity to deliver the project to the community, saying that the ministry provided all required support to execute the project.

Agoro urged members of the community to watch over the project, saying that it had been designed to ensure that consumers meet up with the payment plan of the electricity tariff.

Agoro said the company, a solution provider in the electricity industry comprised power and automation engineers.

He said the company was also working with Distribution Companies (DisCos) to provide services in the distribution chain.

“We work with some DisCos, we are also one of the potential Meter Asset Provider (MAP) in the country.”
