Inauguration: ctask Buhari on security, power, others

Some residents in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State have tasked President Muhammadu Buhari on improvements in Security, Power, Education, Agriculture and Employment in his second term in office.

TBI Africa quoted the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo were sworn-in for the second term in office on Wednesday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The Ondo residents who spoke in interviews with NAN on Wednesday in Okitipupa, also urged President Buhari to overhaul his list of ministerial nominees and appoint technocrats as ministers.

They also said the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing should be split into three different ministries, for optimal performance and to make them more results-oriented.

Mr Bode Adebehingbe, a civil servant, told NAN tbat President Buhari should give security the optimal priority and should step up his security measures, as well as the security apparatus.

“Buhari needs to step up his security apparatus to decimate Boko Haramtotally and also fight against violent herdsmen who are killing innocent citizens and farmers.

Mr Akeem Adeleye, another civil servant, said that the power sector should be revived for small business to thrive and to also increase the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, which would, in turn, increase tax generation.

“Epileptic power is part of the problem we are facing. if the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing can be broken into three separate ministries,  we will have steady power supply, which will certainly increase our GDP.

A lawyer, Mr Adeola Adegboyega, said that Judiciary must be given all the necessary apparatus and support to work without fear or favour, in order to stem crime in the country.

“I think the Juciary should be equipped and given a free hand to stem  criminal activities in the country,’’ he said.

Chief Kolawole Oyinlola, a community chieftain, told NAN that President Buhari should rejig his ministers by appointing young, dynamic technocrats who will work to meet the aspirations of many  Nigerians.

“Most of the ministers who worked under Buhari in his first term were old and tired, the President should take his time to employ the services of young and energetic technocrats who can deliver, this time around,’’ he said.

Mrs Abosede Enikuomehin, a teacher, urged the administration to give prority to education and enhance teachers’ welfare, so that children who are out of school can be encouraged to return.

“I think the best legacy to be given to the children is education because information is power and the knowledge could be deployed to develop the nation,’’ she said.

A trader, Mrs Bernice Ikumawoyi, urged President Buhari to step up his agricultural innovations which have gone a long way to provide food for the citizenry.

Mr Adebola Omowaire, an artisan, called on the President to empower the youths so that youths restiveness would be a thing of the past.

“Youths are the power, energy and strength of any nation. They must be empowered to venture into small businesses or agriculture, so that they can be weaned off social vices,’’ he said.
