Stakeholders call for synergy to curb insecurity in Bwari

Stakeholders in Bwari Area Council have called on residents to support the police towards ensuring peace and protection of lives and property.

The stakeholders made the call at the sideline of a security meeting in Bwari on Tuesday.

Alhaji Awwal Ijakoro, Sarkin Bwari, tasked the FCT administration on more man power in the area to tackle security challenges as the district shared borders with other neighbouring states.

He urged the people in the communities to help the police achieve their goals by helping with vital information.

He, however, pointed out that some residents may find it difficult to approach the force with the vital information because sometimes, it may be used against them.

He, however, said that people should not give up but approach the traditional heads with any information that was important once they were afraid to reach the police.

This, he said, would help address some of the security breaches that the council was faced with.

Ijakoro also urged religious leaders across the country to continuously pray for peaceful coexistence.

Also speaking, Mr Ibrahim Yaro, Etsu Bwari, said that all hands must be on deck to help the police address security challenges in the council.

He also said that it was necessary to continue to maintain the already existing peace in the area, while also calling on both security agents and the residents for its sustenance.

Mr Bala Tsoho, Principal, FCT Vocational and Rehabilitation Training Centre in the council, advised that religious sentiments must be put aside to ensure peaceful coexistence.

Tsoho said that people must begin to respect each other’s religions, while also inculcating the teachings of prophets and Almighty God in their daily lives.

He said that enforcing laws was not the only way of ensuring security, but also teaching sincerity, honesty and non-violence especially among the youths.

He urged parents to impose the charity-begins-at-home strategy on their children, to ensure that children and wards were well cultured, as well as monitored.

He also called on stakeholders to join hands in the fight against drug addiction which was one of the major challenges of the society.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, had on July 11 launched the “2019 Policing Plan” to curb insecurity in the area.
