The community leader and some of the residents of Ijede in Ikorodu community , have appealed to the Lagos State Government (LASG) to repair all the bad roads there.
They said that good road network would attract investors to Ikorodu community and improve economic activities.
Chief Aliu Musediku, the regent of Ijede in Ikorodu community, spoke in his palace.
He said that the deplorable conditions of the roads had contributed immensely to low commercial activities in the area.
He also said that lack of good road network had discouraged investors from engaging in businesses and the industrialisation of the area.
“We thank the Lagos State Government for its support in the development of Ikorodu community but I am appealing to them to give us good roads to aid commercial activities.
“There are investors who are interested in coming to establish industries in Ikorodu but the deplorable state of the roads has been discouraging them.
“Our roads are plagued with potholes that are getting worse, especially, during the rainy season.
“If the roads are good, that will encourage investors because Ikorodu division can boast of a large expanse of land, especially, Ijede community,” the regent said.
According to him, the state of the road has also led to the rising rate of auto-crashes experienced by commuters coming and going out of the community.
“We want the state government to help us repair our bad roads.
“If you want to travel from here to the metropolis, you will spend no less than four hours on the road due to its deplorable conditions.’’
Chief Musediku also called on the state lawmakers to run an all inclusive representation, adding that they should shun the idea of sentiments in the discharge of their duties.
He advised them to utilise their constituency allowances for the purposes they were meant for instead of converting such into personal use.
“I am calling on all the elected lawmakers to let their people feel their presence in their various constituencies.
“They should embark on projects that will benefit everybody not just for their party supporters alone,” the regent said.
Also, Mr Toba Ibrahim, a member of Ijede community youths, said that the only accessible road to Ijede from Ikorodu was in a deplorable state.
The youth leader appealed to the LASG to roll out a palliative measure to alleviate the sufferings of the people in Ikorodu ,especially, those from Ijede axis.
Ibrahim said that the issue of bad road was discussed at the last town hall meeting with the previous administration.
He said that it did nothing until it handed over to the current administration.
“I do not believe that the people living in this axis of Ikorodu deserve the kind of hardships they are facing.
“During the previous administration, I raised the issue of the bad state of the roads and how the masses were facing hardships along the road before getting to their destinations during a town hall meeting.
“We are now appealing to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration to assist us by rehabilitating the roads.’’
Also, Mrs Funmilayo Ogunusi, a trader, urged the government to urgently roll out palliative measures on road rehabilitation, especially, the filling of the potholes on the roads.
She said the rainy season had caused more destruction on the roads.
She added that commercial bus drivers had inflated their fares due to tear-and wear caused their vehicles due to bad road network.
Ogunusi also urged the government to create jobs for youths so that they would be positively engaged instead of engaging themselves in crimes.
