Gowon Estate CDA moves to complement LASG’s efforts to stem insecurity

To support the Lagos State government’s efforts at stemming insecurity, the Executive Committee of the newly- inaugurated Gowon Estate North Community Development Association (CDA) says it will rid the settlement of criminals and their hideouts.

The Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Dauda Oyebanji, said on Sunday in Lagos that the body had resolved that all acts posing security threat to the residents of the estate would not be condoned.

Consequently, he said that auto mechanics should inform their members that the CDA would no longer condone their sleeping overnight in unrepaired and unserviceable vehicles in the workshops.

The chairman said that all vehicles parked along Road 41 to Water bus stop should be removed by their owners or the mechanics in-charge with immediate effect or risk being towed away.

Oyebanji, who spoke on the outcome of their inaugural meeting in February, said that all commercial motorcyclists, otherwise called “Okada’’ riders, should be properly identified through identity cards to be issued by the committee.

He added that they would also wear apron as uniform for Gowon Estate North Okada riders, noting the move was to regulate them and check their being security threat.

Oyebanji disclosed that the CDA had also constituted a security committee comprising all security agencies in the community, including serving and retired personnel.

He said that an electricity committee would also be set up at the next monthly meeting of the CDA to dialogue with Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IEDC) and find ways of increasing power supply to the estate from seven hours per day to at least 18 hours.

On the debris removed from the gutter on the main road to Egbeda, he said that the committee had liaised with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and removed the refuse up to Ponle bus stop under its area of coverage to avoid health hazards.

He appealed to other CDAs and local government councils to do the same for the benefit of the citizenry.

Oyebanji also urged the Ministry of The Environment to ensure that whenever the drains were opened up, the debris should be picked up timely to avoid its finding way into the gutters and blocking the drains with the resultant flooding.
