A social commentator and community development advocate, Prince David Odeli, has postulated that oil blocs/marginal oil fields, should be allocated to state governments and not individuals.
Odeli, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and Secretary of Tisun Community Management Council in Warri North Local Government Area, opined that allocating crude oil blocs to individuals, would make them too powerful, oppressive and negate the philosophy of even distribution of wealth as well as creation of job opportunities, especially for indigenes of the oil and gas producing/impacted communities.
According to Prince Odeli, if oil blocs are allocated to state governments and they manage same, they would engage the necessary expertise, strengthen existing framework, create wider job opportunities and effectively execute a profitable business plan, that would transform into the much needed infrastructural as well as human capital development of the oil and gas producing communities vis-à-vis indigenes of the host communities.
Recall that the GbaramatuTraditional Council of Chiefs, the Movement for the Development of Itsekiri Oil/Gas Producing Communities, MDIOGPC and the Federated Omadino Communities, threatened to ground the oil and gas sector in the country over perceived marginalization and the recent Marginal Oil Fields offer by DPR.
