Youth group applauds Buhari, Osinbajo, I-G on SARS dissolution

The Voice of Nigeria Youths (VONY), a youth group, has commended the Inspector-General of Police( I-G) Mohammed Adamu, for dissolving the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

VONY also applauded President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for ensuring the dissolution of SARS.

The group, in a statement by its founder, Temilade Okesanjo, on Sunday congratulated Nigerian youths for lending their voices online and offline to the need to #EndSARS and reform the Nigerian Police Force agitation.

Okesanjo said the outcome was a win-win for everyone–the Nigerian youths who resisted the brutality for which SARS had become infamous, the I-G who aligned with Nigerian people and Buhari’s Presidency that backed the I-G.

“By this courageous and forthright action, I-G has shown himself to be a truly effective leader with a fervent commitment to ensure the Nigerian police acts always in the interest of the citizens,’’ she said.

Adamu, earlier on Sunday, announced that the dissolution of SARS was in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people.

He said that by the dissolution, all officers and men of the defunct SARS would be redeployed.

The I-G also reaffirmed his determination to bequeath to the country a police force and system that would be professional in service delivery and most importantly, accountable to the people.

Osinbajo, had on Oct. 9, following Buhari’s directive, held a meeting with the I-G, Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The meeting was to address growing national concerns on the excesses of SARS and other police tactical units.

The Vice President, had also on Oct.4, met the I-G following which police boss banned routine activities of SARS.
