The Federal Government has said the number of poor persons on the National Social Register used for the implementation of its National Social Investment Programme has now risen to over 30 million.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farooq, who was represented by the National Coordinator, N-SIP, Dr. Umar Bindir, stated this in Yola, during the training of over 260 independent monitors to effectively supervise implementation of the Integrated N-SIP programme
He said, “We have more than 30 million people on that register, and it is continuously being polled. Towards the end of the year, we probably would have captured about 90 per cent of the poor. The register is available to all states, NGOs, philanthropists and anybody who is working on poverty reduction.”
According to him, the scope of the N-SIP intervention is large with over 15 million people now benefitting in one form or the other.
