The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zoom Security Consult, Lagos, Mr Dennis Amachree, has called on the newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, to ensure that the military is equipped with sophisticated tools necessary to beat terrorism.

Amachree gave the advice while reacting to the appointment of new Army Chief in an interview on Thursday in Lagos.

The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Maj.-Gen. Yahaya as the new COAS on May 27 following the sudden demise of former COAS Lt.- Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.

“Prior to his appointment, Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East, code named Operation HADIN KAI.

Amachree, who was also a former Assistant Director in State Security Service (SSS), posited that the new the COAS must enhance due equipment for operations of the troops.

“Once the troops are equipped with necessary tools, they will do their job splendidly. Yahaya must ensure that terrorism, kidnappings, killings will end in the country shortly,” he said.

The security expert also urged the new Army Chief to cooperate with other security agency to tackle the menaces.  Amachree described the new COAS as a good operations officer, saying “Yahaya‘s performance in the military revealed that he deserves his new crown.

“He must defend the crown by taking care of Nigerians, ensure proper security. He must continue from where Attahiru stopped and perform better,” he said.

He must go the extra mile to ensure that we overcome terrorism, especially Boko Haram, Amachree added.
