Govt to kick start facility management stakeholders round table

In furtherance of its effort towards promoting facility management practices in the country, a Stakeholders Round Table, first of its kind has been planned by the Nigerian National Mirror Committee (NMC) of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) on the subject (ISO/TC 267) under the auspices of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

The virtual programme is scheduled to take place on the 29th of June, 2021 at 10.00am under the theme FACILITY MANAGEMENT STANDARDS IN NIGERIA: THE ISO 41001 PERSPECTIVE.

This is contained in a statement made available to the press by the Media and Publicity Committee of the NMC.

According to NMC, facilities management encompasses a range of disciplines and services to ensure the functionality, comfort, safety and efficiency of a built environment — buildings and grounds, infrastructure and real estate, including operations and maintenance, communications management emergency management and business continuity among others.

“The Committee disclosed that the keynote address at the maiden Round Table would be delivered by the Global Chairman of ISO Technical Committee 267, Mr. Duncan Wadell with the Special Adviser to the President on the Ease of Doing Business, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Special Guest of Honour.

“The programme which promises to be engaging and stimulating would have experts and experienced facility management practitioners enlighten the audience on how the new ISO 41000 series of standards will be a game changer to the Facility Management industry and the Nigerian economy at large, according to the statement.

“Panellists to discuss various aspects of facility Management during the programme according to the Committee include, Aare Olumuyiwa Olumilua, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ekiti State, Mrs. Nwando Chukwurah, Chief Executive Officer, Total Facilities Management Limited, Dr. Tunde Ayeye, Group Managing Director, International Facilities Services and Mrs. Vivian Okwor, Head Facilities Management at EcoBank Nigeria Plc.” The document reads.

The statement pointed out that the programme will be moderated by Ms.Abigail Olagbaye, Chairman of the Publicity Committee and Tunde Obileye, Chairman, Institute for Workplace and Facility Management.

According to the statement, the Round Table series would be held on a quarterly basis to further entrench the tenets of facility management practices in Nigeria for the safety, durability and sustainability of the built environment as part of contributions to the growth and sustainability of the Nation’s economy.
