Following the incessant gas explosion in the state, the Delta State Government has placed stringent conditions in siting gas and petrol stations in the state.
The State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emma Amgbaduba stated this on Tuesday shortly after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the government house, Asaba.
He said: “You recalled that on January 2021, there was a gas explosion that claimed many lives in Agbor and the Governor gave a direction for a discreet investigation of the incident.
“The report was submitted on Tuesday at the state executive council and the Exco approved guidelines for the location and regulation of gas plants and fuel stations in the state.
“Following the embargo earlier placed on the siting of gas stations in the state, the State Executive Council has approved the siting of petrol and gas stations in the state with stringent conditions.
“These measures include the approval from the governor himself, Ministry of Oil & Gas, DPR, Environment, Lands & Survey and Fire Service before final approval will be given. Existing ones would be given time to upgrade according to the new regulations”
He urged stations especially the existing ones to put in place adequate safety measures to ensure people’s safety when such an incident occurs.
