The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it will intensify efforts on repositioning the company as a world class transmission service provider in line with its vision, mission and core values.
Acting Managing Director of TCN, Mr Sule Abdulaziz, while reviewing the company’s performance in the year 2021, said that the repositioning of the company would be through effective re-branding strategies and assured of more efficiency in 2022.
He said that with the commitment of the Minister of Power, Mr Abubakar Aliyu, TCN has been able to play its part in fostering positive collaboration among power sector stakeholders.
According to him, the collaboration among power stakeholders is towards the common goal of providing steady electricity supply to Nigerians.
“As we work towards our vision, we cannot afford to rest on our oars , we must strive for higher accomplishments in Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
“We must continue to leverage on team spirit and corporate commitment in our determination to further increase grid capacity stability and efficiency as well as enhance connectivity in the West African sub-region in 2022 and beyond,‘’ he said.
Abdulaziz said that in spite of the challenges in the outgoing year, TCN was able to effectively reduce frequency of system disturbance and collapse resulting in an all-time national peak generation of 5,801.40 Mega Watts (MW) on March 1.
“Other Milestone achievements include the creation of Kano Region, bringing to 10 TCN’s regional operations centres in the country.
“In the course of the year, strategic management decisions have paid off, enabling the completion of several abandoned projects, prompt maintenance, upgrade and repair/restoration of vandalized transmission lines and facilities, installation of new transformers and substations, re-calibration and reconfiguration of transmission lines and transformer protection schemes.
“To sustain capacity building, we embarked on training and retraining of all cadres of staff, the most significant being the collaboration between TCN and the World Bank in which we trained 708 engineers,” he said.
According to the managing director, in the international arena, TCN has continued to hold her leadership position in the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP).
He said that as the chairman of WAPP Executive Board, progress was being made on the implementation of transmission interconnection projects that would impact positively on the sub-region.
