Zenith, UBA, others sustain market upbeat

BUSINESS on the floor of the NGX exchange opened the week with mid and highly capitalized stocks retaining the key indicators on the green side with an increase of 0.2 per cent respectively.

Looking at the market report from the most active in terms of volume, deals and turnover, Zenith Bank, UBA, Transcorp, UCAP and GTCO stocks frequently appeared on the top ten of the 156 equities traded yesterday.

According to the report, Transcorp topped the list of the most active with 99.258 million shares valued at N118.535 million across 296 deals. This was followed by Zenith Bank’s 46.325 million shares worth N1.248 billion across 353 deals. This invariably placed the stock of the bank as the lead in both turnover and deals in the market yesterday.

UBA, UCAP and GTCO all traded 26.979 million shares worth N233.969 million across 303 deals, 31.575 million shares worth N416.796 million across 185 deals and 10.748 million shares worth N280.928 million across 337 deals respectively.

All top ten most active stocks appreciated in value except AIICO which despite having a price high of N0.69 and a price low of N0.67 still closed at the opening price of N0.69 recording no price change at the close of market.

Specifically, all top ten in terms of turn over witnessed price change except Nigerian Breweries (NB) and Total. NB just like AIICO closed at the opening price despite witnessing a price high and low while Total on the other hand was more of a crossed deal as there were no price change at all. Meaning there was a movement with no price bargain.

However, investors traded 421.458 million shares worth N4.21 billion across 5,961 deals. Market capitalization improved by N51 billion to close at N25.457 trillion while the All Share Index increased by 93.43 basis points to close at 47,233.91 points.

RT Briscoe continued its upward movement with a price increase of 10 per cent to close at N0.66. It will be recalled that the stock led the weekly gainers list of the week ended February 18, 2022.

Others on the gainers table were UCAP, Africa Prudential, Academy Press, Champion Breweries, May and Baker, International Breweries, Guinness, Chams and Transcorp.

On the flip side, Juli led the lots with a drop of 9.75 per cent to close at N0.74, followed by Multiverse drop of 8 per cent to close at N0.23. Others were Mutual Benefit, Flourmills, Honey Flour, Custodian and Allied, Japaul Gold, UPDC, Dangote Sugar and Jaiz Bank
