ICPC recovers N67bn assets, gets 15 convictions

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has been able to effect the seizure, recovery, and forfeiture of N67.1114bn assets from corrupt persons, including politically-exposed persons and retired or serving civil servants between January 1 and August 31, 2022.

According to a document obtained , the anti-graft agency recovered N1.413bn in cash, $225,965, an equivalent of N95.69m after conversion, received N9.25m rent on forfeited assets, N1.264bn from tax intervention, seven vehicles worth N81.1m at the actual price, 323 buildings worth N2.603bn actual the price, 19 plots of land worth N679.13bn actual price, and 11 pieces of jewellery and electronics.

The sum of N53.914bn was also restrained through ICPC advisory, and N6.435bn cash was restrained through the agency’s budget tracking, while N614.2m was recovered through other accounts.

Also, 672 investigations were concluded, with 538 projects tracked under CEPTI, and 565 non-petition intelligence-led investigations were carried out, while it secured 15 convictions from 34 cases filed in court.

The agency assigned 259 petitions for investigation, forwarded 206 petitions to other agencies, and closed exactly 317 petitions not within its mandate, out of 972 petitions received.

The document also revealed that the ICPC undertook 14 corruption monitoring activities and assessed 260 MDAs with its ethics and compliance scorecard. This was as it assessed 10 MDAs for compliance under studies.

The agency also held several training for its operatives, especially in the field of investigation. This was as it trained 1543 persons through 20 different training programmes organised by the Anti-corruption Academy of Nigeria.
