Senate declares Umahi, Geidam seats vacant

The Senate has declared vacant the seats of the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi and that of the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam.
The ministers at the inception of the 10th Senate represented Ebonyi South and Yobe East senatorial districts, respectively.
Umahi and Geidam were appointed by President Bola Tinubu as ministers in August, after which they assumed office.
Their seats have since been left vacant in the Senate.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, declared them vacant.
Based on legislative practices, the Independent National Electoral Commission can now begin the process of conducting bye-elections for the vacant seats.
Earlier, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas had declared vacant the seats of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajamiabila; the Minister of State for Labour and Empowerment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and the Minister of Interior, Tunde Bunmi-Ojo
