Borno community witnesses large voter turnout in spite of Boko Haram attempted attack

Mafa Town in Borno on Saturday witnessed large turn out of voters in spite of an attempted attack by the Boko Haram insurgents on Friday night.

TBI Africa said the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that troops of  the Operation Lafiya Dole, successfully repelled attack coordinated by Boko Haram insurgents in Mafa town, Mafa Local Government Area of Borno.

Bulama Goni, a Civilian Joint Task Force, who witnessed the incident said the Boko Haram truck the town 6:15 pm but were reppeled by the high fire power of the military.

Goni said tha scores of the insurgents were killeid while scores of them excaped with injuries.

Brig.-Gen. Bulama Biu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, and Commander Sector 1, Operation Lafiya Dole, confirmed  the attack to NAN in an interview.

Biu disclosed that the gallant troops repelled the attack when the insurgents attempted to in filtrate the community on Friday evening.

He said “troops are in the position to protect the voters, election workers and materials for the election in Mafa and other parts of the state.

NAN  reporter who visited  Mafa local government to monitor the voting exercise, reports  that the voting was peaceful amidst tight security.

Musa Amsha, INEC Head of Election in Mafa, who briefed the GOC, said that voting began at 8a.m. in all the polling centres of the LGA.

Also speaking, ASP Jidda Lawal, The DPO in Mafa town said:”by At 11:30 a.m, most of the voters had voted.

“As you can see many are already preparing to go back to Maiduguri, he said

Bashir Bulama, an IDP from Muna camp, told NAN:”I thank God I have voted and I thank our security agencies for providing protection during the whole exercise”.

The All Progressive Congress (APC), governorship candidate, Babagana Zulum, who casted his vote in Mafa,  also commended voters for coming out en mass to vote
