Ministry, NESG to hold national policy dialogue on creative industry

The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture says it will partner with the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) in hosting a national policy dialogue on the creative industry.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the NESG breakfast session on creative industry.

He said the proposed dialogue would create a forum for stakeholders in the culture, tourism and creative industry to proffer solutions to the challenges facing the industry.

According to the minister, the tourism, hospitality, entertainment, sports and creative industry are sectors that rule the world and Nigeria cannot afford to treat them with kid gloves.

He reiterated his agenda to make the culture, tourism and the creative industry Nigeria’s “new oil ” with the cooperation and support of the relevant stakeholders, particularly in the private sector.

The minister commended NESG for identifying the creative industry as a sector with potential exponential growth that should be harnessed by the country.

The participants at the session identified lack of policy framework, poor infrastructure, lack of skills and cumbersome access to funding among others as challenges facing the creative industry.
